The city walls are covered with street art and murals, many of them decades old giving the city its character and regarded as part of the city's attraction. Take time to stroll around as there is a lot to see and appreciate. The legendary cable cars of Valpo, some of which are more than 100 years old, played a big part in earning the city World Heritage site status. These cars connect the harbor to the hills, among other features. Make sure you for a ride or two. The “El Peral” cable car, for instance, is very close to the Hotel. The poet and writer Pablo Neruda is without a doubt the most famous person of Chile. While staying in Valparaiso, a visit to his house should not be missed. During the Military Coup of 1973, the house was plundered but has since been renovated by the Pablo Neruda Foundation.
